The Hump Day Humor-Gram, November 21, 2007 Issue Number 239 WARNING: The following message contains information intended for an immature audience. Viewer discretion is advised. ================================================================ 1. World Hello Day Today is “World Hello Day” – a day in which you are encouraged to say hello to at least ten new people. Although it sounds a bit trite, the day actually began in response to the Israeli-Egyptian conflict in the fall of 1973. Hello Day is recognized in 180 countries, and is meant to demonstrate the importance of establishing communication (vs. force) with each other as means towards securing peace in the world. Since the mandate here at the old Hump Day is to help foster more inspiring workplaces, I think we should add an element of fun to World Hello Day. So here are a few ideas: - encourage everyone on your team to wear a “Hello My Name is . . .” nametag all day until they return home. - hold a quick contest to see who can say Hello in the most languages. - hold a contest to see who on your team can get the highest number of “hellos” returned back to them by the end of the workday. =============================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Hold a “board game” luncheon every Friday or once a month, where people can square off in a friendly tournament of Yahtzee or Scrabble. ================================================================ 3. Quote of the Week “Life is a tragedy when seen in close up, but a comedy in long shot.” Charlie Chaplin ================================================================ 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky, World A poll of HR executives asked them to share the weirdest job pitches they had ever received. The responses included: a woman who sang all the answers in her job interview; a man who delivered his cover letter verbally as a rap song; a man who said he was allergic to unemployment; and a person who brought his mommy to the interview and let her do all the talking. Happy Hump Day. Remember, suppressing laughter can lead to uncomfortable bouts of gas and indigestion, so keep laughing! ================================================================ Copyright Michael Kerr, 2007. mike@mikekerr.com www.mikekerr.com
