The Hump Day Humor-Gram, August 29, 2007 Issue Number 227 Hello one and all! Yes, the moment you all forgot you were waiting for has arrived! The Hump Day is back, bigger and better than ever before, and now available in 3-D! Okay, so we’re just back. We may not be bigger or better, but, heck, we’re still here, in at least 2-D (depending on your coffee intake)! ================================================================ 1. Back to School, Back to Work 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip 3. Deep Thought of the Week 4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World =============================================================== 1. Back to School, Back to Work The kids are going back to school and for many workers it’s back to the real world. Or at least, back to a busier world. So now’s a great time to add a little fun into the workload. Plan a “Back to School” social event, party, BBQ or meeting to give people something to look forward to, and allow employees to catch up and share memories of the summer. Also, keep in mind that for some parents, especially parents with first time young ones heading off to school, the first week of school can be a little traumatic, so if you consider yourself a progressive, humane, inspiring kind of workplace, then offer a little latitude and flexibility in the schedule so parents can make the adjustment and drop and/or pick up the wee ones for the first few days. =============================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip - Bring Back Recess! Speaking of back to school stuff, a Delaware company known as “The Fun Department” helps workplaces stage recess at work, wherein employees compete in things such as a giant version of Yahtzee, relay races and broom hockey. So plan (at least for the first week of September when the kids are going back) for your own version of workplace recess. ================================================================ 3. Quote of the Week “We find it hard to believe that other people’s thoughts are as silly as our own, but they probably are.” James Harvey Robinson ================================================================ 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky, World A Chinese couple recently tried to name their newborn baby @. Yes, as in “@”. Which would have made for one confusing e-mail address, so it’s just as well the government wouldn’t let them. Nor did the New Zealand government allow a couple to name their newborn baby 4Real. So now they’re trying for the much more normal name of. . . Superman. (I’m so grateful that wackiness refuses to take the summer off.) Happy Hump Day everyone. May the farce be with you in full farce as you dive into the autumn season . . . ================================================================ Copyright Michael Kerr, 2007. mike@mikekerr.com www.mikekerr.com
