The Hump Day Humor-Gram, July 4, 2007 Issue Number 225 ================================================================ 1. Happy Campers 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip 3. Deep Thought of the Week 4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World =============================================================== 1. Happy Campers Many folks will be taking vacation over the next few months, so here are a few random thoughts on creating happy campers: - actually plan and schedule your vacation. This sound like a “duh factor”, but more folks are skipping holidays than ever before, which is a surefire recipe for unhappy little campers - leave the gadgets behind (this is your time, so unless your name is Jack Bauer you don’t need to be in touch 24/7) - plan a holiday that’s a good fit for you. (The idea is to reduce your stress, not increase it!) - if you can’t get away for a big trip, plan a “stay-cation”, where you can spend some time in your own backyard - tell people you’re coming back a day later than you actually are, that way you have a “free day” to play catch up - send postcards to your colleagues to let them know you miss them (not, of course, to rub salt in their wounds) - plan to tap into your sense of humor during your break. Read funny books, listen to comedians, watch only comedies. It’s survival of the funniest out there, so a summer break is the perfect chance to nurture your sense of humor. =============================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Hold a contest and award a prize for the most creative video or photograph(s) of someone using one of your services or products. You can do this internally with employees or with customers. Reward creativity of the video/photo itself, or give points for creative use of the service or product. Some companies that have done this have been amazed by the response. It’s a great way to involve people, learn about strange ways your services & products are actually being used, and a great way to come up with creative and wacky promotion and marketing ideas. ================================================================ 3. Quote of the Week "Humour is like a diaper change - it makes you comfortable for a while." M. Dale Baughman ================================================================ 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky, World The first ever robot emcee recently served as the master of ceremonies at a wedding in South Korea. Just imagine . . .all those corny jokes and embarrassing anecdotes now delivered by an android. (Of course, I’ve watched many a politician and business leader deliver talks as though they were robots, so maybe we’ve actually been doing this for years and just didn’t realize it!) Happy Hump Day, Happy Fourth of July! ================================================================== Copyright Michael Kerr, 2007. mike@mikekerr.com www.mikekerr.com
