The Hump Day Humor-Gram, March 7, 2007 Issue Number 208 1. Is Driving Driving Drivers Crazy? 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World =============================================================== 1. Is Driving Driving Drivers Crazy? An American study by psychologist David Lewis found that some commuters can experience the same levels of stress as a police officer facing a riotous mob or a fighter pilot going into battle! According to a Statistics Canada study, the most miserable commuters were those who, not surprisingly, had the longest commute and those folks that used a combo of driving and mass transit, whereas the happiest commuters were those who rode their bikes to work. One more tidbit to ponder on your drive/walk/ride/swim home today: in a Globe and Mail newspaper poll, 27% of commuters thought most about work issues during their commute, while another 27% (perhaps in the happier category?) thought most about sex during their daily commute. ================================================================ 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip – Enjoy the Journey! Get creative to lighten your mood during your commute. In Tel Aviv, you can board a “yoga bus” where yoga instructors guide passengers through breathing and stretching exercises. In Moscow, commuters can register online and swap jobs with someone who has a similar job, but who works closer to their home. Employees in a company in L.A. don clown noses at the end of each working day to help laugh off the day’s stressors. In Toronto, you can sign up for a course that teaches you to calm your road raged nerves through poetry. So try something different if the road is taking a toll on your mood. Sing like a fool, listen to comedy tapes or practice reframing your road rage stressors so that the only bird you’ll flip is a rubber chicken! ================================================================= 3. Quote of the Week Here’s some advice for stressed out commuters: “He who would travel happily must travel light.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery ================================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky, World Two very lazy seabirds (nicknamed Fred & Freda), are regular commuters aboard a ferry in Britain. Although they are capable of flying thousands of miles, the birds hop aboard the 8:15 a.m. ferry to catch a ride to their feeding grounds, then return home every day at 4:30 p.m. on the last ferry home. They have yet to miss the last ferry back home. Happy Hump Day! May the farce be with you both to and from work. ================================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2007 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
