The Hump Day Humor-Gram, January 17, 2007 Issue Number 201 1. Happy New Year! 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip 3. Deep Thought of the Week 4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World =============================================================== 1. Happy New Year! No doubt dozens of well-wishers have told you to have a happy new year, so it seems apropos that we kick off 2007 with a quick review of what the world’s leading happiness researchers say we need to do to be happier at work: - Celebrate small victories and milestones. - Stay off the “hedonistic treadmill” by relishing what you have instead of chasing the next bigger piece of cheese. - Shorten your commute. (Sorry commuters, but studies show that commuting ranks as one of life’s least enjoyable activities.) - Make sure you get the chance to do whatever it is you do best at least once a day. - Plan experiences and social events that will give you something to anticipate and then something to remember fondly, both huge happiness boosters! ================================================================ 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Try wearing a “Hello, My Name is ______” on your shirt for the day or even an entire week and see what sort of reaction you get. Scott Ginsberg, the “Name Tag Guy”, (surf him up at www.MyNameisScott.com) has been wearing a name tag 24/7 for over six years now, after he refused to take it off after attending a college event. Now, complete strangers are friendlier to him. It puts a smile on their face, and his. So try it out for a day or a week. (I’m going to try it myself and I’ll report back to you. It will all be very exciting I’m sure . . .unless someone beats me up.) ================================================================= 3. Deep Thought of the Week “When arguing with a fool, always make sure they are not doing the same thing!” ================================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World No matter how bad things are at your workplace right now, please, oh please, for the love of gravy, don’t try this: A 21-year-old German woman faked her own kidnapping by sending a text message to her parents in order to get out of going to work at a fast food restaurant. Wow, have times changed . . .I mean whatever happened to just faking a gunshot wound? Happy Hump Day one and all! And have a happy, happy new year. ================================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
