The Hump Day Humor-Gram, October 18, 2006 Issue Number 192 1. Take Back Your Time . . . to Laugh 2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World =============================================================== 1. Take Back Your Time . . . to Laugh In honor of “Take Back Your Time” Day, celebrated in the U.S. on October 24th, why not plan to, well, here’s a thought, take back your time. If you are feeling overworked and underplayed, then Take Back Your Time day is just the day for you – it’s intended to raise awareness on the need for folks to slow down and smell the petunias, spend some quality time with the kids, and to simply balance our lives better in this over-caffeinated, dog-eat-dingo world of ours. I often hear people complain to that they simply don’t have time to have fun. And yet, by taking time out for a laugh or to truly live in the moment with some spontaneous humor, not only will you balance your life better, chances are you’ll be more productive in the long run. Remember, the moment you catch yourself saying, “I don’t have time to laugh” is the best time of all to laugh! ================================================================ 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Speaking of taking back your time, try actually scheduling in fun, for at least a month (what have you got to lose, other than your sanity?). Schedule in a ten-minute humor break into your meetings, create a “wacky hour” where every day at 2:30 p.m. your team has to do something wacky for two minutes, or start a tradition with your team to set aside five minutes at the start and end of each day to share a story or joke. ================================================================= 3. Quote of the Week "The time to laugh is when you don't have time for it." Argus Poster (I think I read that somewhere recently.) ================================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World The latest Ig Nobel prizes have been awarded, reminding us all that even scientists have a sense of humor. The Ig Nobels honor the year’s most unusual or wacky scientific research projects. This year’s winning studies delved into the following topics: why woodpeckers don’t get headaches, how dung beetles are finicky eaters (who’d have thought?), how mosquitoes are as attracted to smelly feet as they are to limburger cheese, how (and please, I just report the news folks) you can stop hiccups with a digital rectal exam, and finally: the invention of a teenager repellant device that emits a high pitched noise annoying to teenagers, but inaudible to most adults. ================================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
