Boost Your Brain Power by Flexing Your Humor Muscles Neuroscientists suspect there are ”humor muscles”: separate parts of both our right and left brain hemispheres that are activated when we practice our sense of humor. Flexing these humor muscles through practice, researchers suggest, can help tune up our minds, help us learn, and keep us mentally loose and creative. “Each humor event you experience makes you grow a little bit, as the brain has expanded and taken on new connections,” says Dr. William Fry, professor of psychiatry at Stanford. Dr. John Allman’s research into the humor-brain connection also suggests that humor sharpens our intuitive thinking skills, which in turn helps us make better social decisions. And Dr. Lee Berk published a number of studies showing that adding humor to the classroom or an exam can help students in university learn more and perform better on exams. So, to conclude, this is your brain without humor: :( This is your brain on humor: :) ================================================================ 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Monday, October 16 is official “Boss Day,” so if it’s been a while since you’ve thanked your boss, take the time to do something special for that special someone in your life. Buy a funny card, send some flowers or chocolates, or heck, just decide to show up on time. ================================================================= 3. Quote of the Week "A word to the wise isn’t necessary -- it's the stupid ones who need the advice." Bill Cosby ================================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World: A police chief in Daytona Beach, Florida, had his house recently burglarized . . .while he was giving a “Neighborhood Watch” talk on the importance of crime prevention. Happy Hump Day. As always, may the farce be with you. ================================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
