The Hump Day Humor-Gram, July 19, 2006, Issue Number 185 Just a reminder folks that July is official Anti-Boredom Month, Ice Cream Month and Picnic Month. (So if you get bored at work, have an ice cream picnic.) 1. And the Top Pet Peeves Are . . . 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week – Send in the Clowns 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World ========================================================== 1. And the Top Workplace Pet Peeves Are . . . According to a survey of 2,300 folks conducted by Randstad Holding NV, the top workplace pet peeves are: Being condescended to: 44% Being publicly reprimanded: 37% Micromanaging managers: 34% LOUD TALKERS: 32% Mobile phones ringing: 30% Public speakerphones: 25% People named Bob: 7%* *I made up this last one. My apologies to anyone named Bob. ========================================================= 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip It’s hard to maintain a sense of humor if you’re constantly annoyed by those minor on-going irritants that confront us daily at work. So create a Pet Peeve Patrol for your workplace: a team of folks assigned to A) unearth everyone’s biggest pet peeves; B) share the information they find with everyone so everyone’s more aware of what’s bugging everyone and C) devise some simple solutions to reducing those pet peeves. Simply having the conversation and raising awareness is often all it takes to remove many of them! (And no, sorry, “your boss” or “your coworkers” don’t qualify.) ========================================================= 3. Quote of the Week "If fear is too great, send in the clowns." Laughter researcher Dr. Lee Birk ========================================================== 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World Eight percent of adults suffer from coulrophobia: a severe fear of clowns. The good news for clown fearers is this: exposure treatment which involves literally sending in the clowns (in controlled doses) and encouraging folks to dress up like clowns, has been show to reduce the incidence of coulrophobia. What a relief. Happy Hump Day! Hope your inner clown is a non-scary one. ========================================================== Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
