The Hump Day Humor-Gram, June 28, 2006, Issue Number 182 SPECIAL HUMP DAY WARNING: Having too much fun at work may cause you to lose all track of time. Please adjust your watches accordingly. 1. Another Fun at Work Success Story 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World ========================================================== 1. Another Fun at Work Success Story Calgary-based Smed International, an office furniture manufacturing company, places a high premium on flexible working conditions and on having fun at work in order to keep their employees happy and productive. Smed have held dance contests (where the winners won tickets to see Ricky Martin), pie-tossing contests (using the managers as recipients, of course), indoor golf tournaments, and Stampede Week “chuckwagon” races using office chairs. ========================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Dartmouth professor Frank Zarnowski, coined the phrase “work-sports” in reference to work skills’ competitions, which include things such as: lumberjack events, grocery bagging, grave digging, gift wrapping, oyster shucking and bike courier delivery sporting events. So, really, if there’s such a thing as the “Cemetery Olympics”, surely you can devise a sporting event unique to your particular office or profession in time for the summer season? (How about the World Cup of Photocopying or the Fastest Blackberry Thumb in the West?) ========================================================= 3. Quote of the Week "There's so much comedy on television. Does that cause comedy in the streets?" Dick Cavett, mocking the TV-violence debate ========================================================== 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World A survey from the staffing service Accountemps uncovered some unusual reasons for people resigning their jobs, including one person who resigned because: “My salary was so high it made me feel uncomfortable.” (Anyone out there have this problem?) Happy Hump Day - keep laughing! Remember that only 20-30 seconds of hearty laughter is the same workout as 3-minutes on a rowing machine! ======================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
