The Hump Day Humor-Gram, April 26, Issue Number 173 1. What Did You Expect? 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World ========================================================== 1. What Did You Expect? Brain scientists have discovered that merely expecting something positive in the future causes dopamine levels to increase. Dopamine functions like a “pleasure accountant” and helps to create an appetite for seeking out new and pleasurable experiences. And just anticipating something positive causes us to exceed the level of happiness (and chemical high) we experience when the thing we’re anticipating actually arrives! This suggests the need to constantly give folks in the workplace something fun and positive to look forward to - so create some fun monthly or even weekly traditions in your workplace. Your brain will reward you for it. ========================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Here’s a rather creative/wacky way to measure employees’ levels of happiness: Rosenbluth International sends out crayons and blank paper every six months to its employees and asks them to draw their view of the company. Drawing out ideas or emotions activates the right side of our brain and is a fun, creative way of expressing our thoughts. It’s also thought to be an effective away to spark creativity. So by all means, feel free to raid your kids’ crayons at any time. ========================================================= 3. Quote of the Week “Humor is the affectionate communication of insight.” Leo Rosten ========================================================== 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World A survey posted by careerbuilder.com unearthed these rather odd excuses for employees being absent from their jobs: - “God didn’t wake me.” - “I’m too drunk to drive to work.” - “My boyfriend’s snake got loose.” Happy Hump Day everyone. May the farce be with you. ======================================================== Copyright Michael Kerr, 2006 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640, http://www.MikeKerr.com.
