The Hump Day Humor-Gram, November 30, 2005 Issue Number 155 1. Making Work a Family Affair 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World ========================================================== 1. Making Work a Family Affair We’ve all heard of “Take Your Daughter/Son/Gerbil” to work day. Organic, a web design company in New York, took the concept further by holding a “Take Your Parents to Work Day” so that employees’ parents could figure out just what the heck their kids do all day. Other companies are holding “Family Open Houses” so the entire family can meet co-workers and feel connected to the workplace, while truly inspiring workplaces have been known to not only thank and reward employees, but thank the families or spouses of employees for their support as well! Inspiring, healthy workplaces recognize that employees have lives (what a concept!) that extend beyond the 9-5 workday. And when an employee’s family feels connected or even involved in their job, workers report feeling less stressed and happier—both at home, and at the office. ========================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Hold a contest for the most creative or humorous slogan for your workplace. For example, the slogan for the company Dave’s Drilling and Blasting is “We Don’t Stand Behind Our Work – We Stand Behind a Tree.” Or the slogan for an optometrist’s office in California: “If You Can’t Read This, You’ve Come to the Right Place!” ========================================================= 3. Quote of the Week “Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.” Dali Lama ========================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World Researchers in Japan have, after hours and hours of meticulous sociological and psychological research, discovered the ultimate, most effective pickup line. The line, translated into English, is: “This time next year, let’s be laughing together.” (Now if they could only figure out the ultimate telemarketer rejection line). Happy hump day. This time next year, let’s all agree to be laughing together, okay? ========================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2005 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640 or surf him up at http://www.MikeKerr.com.
