The Hump Day Humor-Gram, July 6, 2005, Issue Number 140 In this issue . . . 1. Fun With Your Brain 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip 3. Quote of the Week 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World ======================================================= 1. Fun With Your Brain It's summer, it's hot now, so I don't want to overly tax you with any heavy duty humor reading, so instead let's try a wacky little group exercise, shall we? As a great reminder that we really do have two separate halves of our brains controlling our every move, try this fun little experiment: Lift your right foot into the air (standing or sitting is fine) and then rotate your foot/lower leg in a clockwise (right direction) manner. Then take your right arm and try and draw the number 6 in the air, while you continue to rotate your leg to the right. You can't do it. You may think you are doing it, but look to see that your foot is still going to the right. It's not, is it? Why? Because both movements are being controlled by the left side, but it cannot process the commands to go in two different directions at the same time, so the brain overrides the first command to rotate your foot to the right. I'm sure that I've now given some of you enough to do for the rest of your hump day. ======================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip The lazy, hazy days of summer is the perfect time for a fun office makeover. So why not try what one of my former clients did and create an office version of the T.V. show Trading Spaces, where in teams re-design designated office areas in fun, creative & exciting ways, competing, of course, for valuable parting gifts. ======================================================== 3. Quote of the Week "When in charge, ponder; when in trouble, delegate; and when in doubt, murmur." James H. Boren, professional bureaucrat ========================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World British workers have been urged at least a few times to get off their butts and do nothing, for at least one day a year, in order to celebrate an annual "Slackers Day." Unfortunately, the day isn't working out as intended, perhaps due to the fact that 59% of British workers who were surveyed said they didn't do much of anything anyways! Happy Hump Day one and all! ========================================================= Copyright Michael Kerr, 2005 mailto:mike@mikekerr.com Reach Michael at 1-866-609-2640 or surf him up at http://www.MikeKerr.com.
