And the Employee of the Month Is . . . At a recent workshop I met a fellow who was wearing an Employee of the Month t-shirt. The shirt was given to him, well, by himself. Yes, he designated himself to be worthy of the honour. He went on to tell me how, at a former job, he instituted an "Officer of the Year Award," which, year after year, he would win. Soon there was a statue, a plaque and an annual banquet and party, all to honour the Officer of the Year. Which of course, was always him, since he was the entire judge and committee. It evolved into a huge joke, which everyone played along with as an excuse to celebrate. A great reminder that if those of us we work with are forgetting how great we are, we can always take matters into our own hands . . . =========================================================== 2. Mike's Fun at Work Tip Give yourself a little perk by designating yourself The "______" of the Year", or page yourself over the intercom and give yourself the day off, or buy some flowers for your desk and tell co-workers they were given to you as thanks for all your hard work by the Committee for Workplace Excellence, which of course you are the sole member of. ======================================================== 3. Quote of the Week "Live within your income, even if you have to borrow money to do so." Josh Billings ========================================================= 4. It's a Wacky, Wacky World The latest business buzzword is "Deja Moo": the distinct feeling that you've heard all this bull somewhere before! Happy Hump Day one and all!
